Made of Star Stuff
Made of Star Stuff
The very atoms that make up our bodies – carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and many others – were created in the blazing inferno of stars through the process of nuclear fusion. When massive stars end their lives in explosive supernovae, they scatter these elements into space, where they are eventually incorporated into new stars, planets, and ultimately life. This cosmic recycling has been occurring for billions of years, linking all living things to the universe in a fundamental way. In this sense, we are not separate from the cosmos, but rather intimately connected to it, born of the same processes that shape the stars and galaxies around us.
